Dreamless Sleep or Quiescent Sleep.

Do you know that some people do not dream when they sleep?

Yes and it is called "quiescent sleep".

Dreamless sleep is commonly referred to as "non-REM sleep" or "NREM sleep." This phase of sleep is characterized by the absence or minimal occurrence of dreams, in contrast to REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, during which vivid and memorable dreaming often takes place. NREM sleep consists of several stages, including Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3, with the latter being the deepest and least likely to involve dreaming.

1. NREM Stage 1: This is the transition stage from wakefulness to deeper sleep. It is a light sleep stage where you can be easily awakened. It's often brief and may involve fleeting, nonspecific thoughts or images, but it's not characterized by intense dreaming.

2. NREM Stage 2: This is a deeper stage of sleep where the body's processes continue to slow down. It is still relatively dreamless, although very basic and fragmented dreams may occur during this stage.

3. NREM Stage 3 (also known as NREM Stage 3 or slow-wave sleep): This is the deepest stage of non-REM sleep. It is characterized by slow brain waves and is the most restorative phase of sleep. It is very unlikely for dreams to occur during this stage.

Dreams that are particularly vivid and memorable tend to occur during REM sleep, which is a separate phase of sleep characterized by rapid eye movements, increased brain activity, and where most dreaming occurs. Dreamless sleep, or NREM sleep, is essential for physical and mental restoration, memory consolidation, and overall sleep quality. Both REM and NREM sleep stages are important for a healthy sleep cycle.
